Photos - Bathrooms

This page contains a few photos of Bathroom projects I have undertaken. Personally, I don't like plumbing, but I know a couple of excellent and experienced plumbers, so on bathroom projects I often divide the work, leaving them to do the actual plumbing work, and me to do the tiling, decorating, project planning and coordination. I thought we would start with a couple of "before and after" shots from a bathroom I completed in February 2011.

The bathroom really needed modernising, and as it was for a rented flat, the landlord wanted everything in neutral colours.

Everything was replaced - tiles, flooring, the bathroom suite, the shower screen, the paint...

This was my first bathroom project, and one in which I did everything myself; removing the old suite, plumbing in the new one, tiling, fitting the vanity units, laying the lino, and decorating. While there are things I might do differently now, I'm still pleased with the overall result.

This is a sort of "blow-by-blow" diary of a complete bathroom refurbishment. If I remember correctly, on this one my mate Lee the plumber plumbed in the new shower, and I did the rest. The exact timing and order may be a bit inaccurate, as it was a few years ago now, and my memory is a little vague!

Day 1: Remove old bathroom suite - it's not pretty, but it has to be done!

Day 2: Chase out channels in the wall for the pipes for the new shower....

Day 2: ...and make a start on the tiling.

Day 3: Lee runs the pipes for the new shower.

Day 4: More tiling....

Day 4: ...and plumbing in the bath.

Day 5: Finish tiling around the bath....

Day 5: ...and lay membrane on floor (onto which the floor tiles will be laid).

Day 6: Finish grouting the wall tiles, and lay the floor tiles.

Day 7: Plumb in the new hand basin.

Day 8: Plumb in the toilet and grout the floor tiles.

Day 9: Lee fits the shower mixer, etc, a few finishing touches, and we're done!
In this instance, the customer did her own decorating after the installation was complete.

 This was another joint project with Lee the plumber.
He plumbed in all the bathroom suite and shower, and fitted the shower screen, and I did all the tiling and decorating.
